Therapy for Young People and Children

Sometimes Young People and Children can experience times in their lives when things feel like they are becoming too difficult to cope with on their own. It can feel very overwhelming and stressful for young people and they may find they do not have the resources to best help with the situation they are in. Often friends and family provide a listening ear but often try to solve a young person’s problems when all they need is the time and space to do this for themselves and in a way that works best for them as individuals.

Often, they don’t even like to discuss their true thoughts and worries with people in their lives for fear of being judged or because they feel guilty for worrying about these things.

If you are a young person or there is a young person in your life who would like a safe and non-judgemental space to discuss any issues, no matter how small, or just a safe area to be able to openly discuss your thoughts and feelings, then counselling may be able to provide this for you.

Common issues that therapy can help with include:

  • Depression
  • Life issues
  • Stress
  • Family issues
  • Loss of direction in life
  • Self-harm
  • Hearing voices
  • Separation/divorce of parents
  • Perfectionism
  • Exam pressure
  • Eating disorders
  • Other behavioural or substance addictions
  • Self-esteem and body image issues
  • Loneliness
  • Sexual Identity issues
  • Communication issues
  • Bereavement
  • Anxiety and worry
  • Bullying
  • Gender Identity concerns (wanting to be a different gender)
  • Sexual Identity (worries about who you are attracted to)
  • Support for Young People, Parents and Schools for integrating children who are transitioning gender

This list is a small example of some of the things that bring young people to counselling. However, each and every young person has their own issues and worries, all of which can be discussed. Additionally, some young people find themselves experiencing a feeling of unease and anxiety without being able to explain why, this is also something that we can explore during counselling.

The Caesura Centre also specialises in many different forms of play therapy counselling sessions for younger children.
